Today marks 365 days in a row that I have meditated at least 20 minutes a day. That is one whole year of meditation, self-discovery, and awareness. During this time, many positive changes took place in my life, and now I credit meditation with improving every aspect of my life.
So this is what happens when you meditate every day for a whole year.
1. Happier Life
I had a huge grin on my face for the first month of my meditation. Everyone knows at least one annoying person who is always happy, right? Well, I became one of them.
I was smiling like an idiot for no reason. And you know what? A smile is contagious. Random people and strangers would smile when they see me smiling. Although this initial phase faded eventually, I am extremely proud to announce that I am still happy most of the time to this day.
In my opinion, this is what inner happiness is. Most people try to find happiness in external things – they buy stuff they don’t even need and act like it is other people’s job to make them happy. But they don’t seem to understand that true happiness lies within them.
Meditation helps to find that inner happiness that is buried deep down.
2. Less stress
Yes, life happens and we get stressed. However, most people don’t realize that the little things stress us more than the big problems. We have this nagging voice in our head that constantly reminds us about our small issues in our lives. Those little problems are the main reason we get stressed and burn out. That is when meditation comes handy.
It is the best tool to quiet the mind and be more present. It helps you to see the big picture and recognize those insignificant problems that are not worth stressing over.
If you have never tried meditation, I suggest you to start practicing now.
3. Higher Productivity
I definitely expected less stress and overall well-being when I first started meditating. But this one came quite unexpected. After the third month of meditation, I noticed that my mind became more focused than ever before and everything started to seem so effortless – from the uni assignments to gym training.
I was able – and still am to this day- to accomplish more in less time because my mind wasn’t burdened with unnecessary stress and chaos.
4. Overall Positivity
If you are trying to be more positive, look no further. Of course, expecting to be positive 24/7 is not practical. We do and will have our ups and downs now and then.
However, meditation helps you to see life from a different angle.Trust me, the view from that angle is beautiful. If you find yourself holding onto negativity, try meditation for at least one month, and you will be converted.
